First Two Auditions
So the auditions went pretty well. Not great, but just okay.AUDITION #1: The Avril Lavigne audition was for something (probably a video) called "The Calling." I had to dress kinda "punk." Punk in the way of Blink 182, so that kinda new-punk. Mohawk not necessary. However, on advice from my sister, I did an off-center faux-hawk that actually looked pretty cool. Was thinking about doing my hair like that all the time, but it took a while to make look cool, so probably not. I also wore a nose ring and dressed all skater-like. The audition consisted of me going in with four other (mostly white) guys. The casting director told us to "juice it up" as the previous groups had not been very lively. We were like "okay" but were wondering what she wanted us to do and asked as much. She said, "Don't worry, I'll let you know." So then she had us slate our names and give profiles, and then she asks "Who here is from L.A.?" So I'm like, "I am" and raise my hand. Then she asks where we're going to go after L.A. and some other questions and then says, "That's it." We're all kind of left bewildered as we file out as I don't think any of us thought that was the audition. I'm sure she told the next group to "juice it up" as we weren't very juicy. During the audition I thought she was just kind of warming us up to a point where she would then start the audition. Nope.
LESSON : Always be "on" at auditions because you only have a certain amount of time to stand out which doesn't leave any time to be less than "11."
AUDITION #2. This one was for a Jeep/Cherokee commercial featuring friends going on a camping trip and toilet paper, and went much better than the Avril spot. The guy running the audition, Boise Thomas, is a cool guy who has booked tons of commercials himself and runs a commerical auditioning workshop every so often, one which I'll probably take within the next month or so. Whenever I have the money and time to do it. Anyway, I think I got to shine a bit in this one and although I'm probably a little too young-looking and boyish for this spot, I'd love to get a callback. If only to show my new managers that I can get callbacks.
